don't wanna be (the prisoner)
10/7/12 07:49 amhad a dream i made a children's show about a groupd of friends whose school is on some kind of interdimensional nexus, and they're tasked by the alien forces that occasionally squeak through with making sure everything goes okay and no intergalactic incidents happen. by the end of the first season, everyone will have figured out aliens exist, though the team tries to keep it secret. clearly takes place in DC.
Esau Bromiden, 'leader' character of the group, genuinely nice guy. Has 'daddy' issues because he's always assumed his father left him before he was old enough to remember him, as a consequence tries to 'father' everyone else, including his friends. In actuality his mother was part of a fundamentalist christian sect clearly based off quiverfull wierdos, she escaped when Esau was a baby and ran to a women's shelter. She now works as a manager at a hippie grocery store, and clearly loves it and is getting really into feminist literature. Esau assumes she does this as a reaction to his father leaving; she's never told him the whole story. Him figuring it out will be one of the overarching plots of the first season.
February Windshield Roth, child of two hippies who run the local hippie grocery store, childhood friends with Esau. She hates her name and her parents' hippie shit and tries to be as openly materialistic, vapid and shallow as possible as a consequence. Everyone assumes she's dating Esau or they're in love; they aren't, and exist to do the whole 'can a man and a woman be friends? YES' thing. she needs to learn to accept her parents and herself and stop living as a reaction to them, instead doing things she likes for her sake. Hinted to be Jewish but it's never made explicit.
Hector Cheung, only child, very popular, witty, etc (the 'marco' of the group to Esau's Jake). As a reaction to very recently coming out of the closet, overacts and overcompensates constantly. Needs to learn how to be okay with himself, etc. Has a lifelong crush on Parker (coming up next), spills the beans by the end of the first season, but until then acts about as Goodfellowish as a middle schooler (or should i make them older? idk) can.
Parker Blake, strong silent type. He's a huge jock and loves basically every sport that isn't a team sport (he does track, wrestling, swimming, etc). He isn't very witty or quick, but can get a good zinger in occasionally. has a brilliant poker face. his parents want him to be a doctor and he clearly wants to go into professional sports-- this conflict will play out over the first two seasonsish. childhood friends with hector.
