i had a dream that was clearly based off locke and key but with a different concept.

it was based around six college aged kids, who all of the sudden find these rings, one for each, that fits their personality. they had various powers, some complicated and some not. i can't remember what all of them were, but one of them was 'takes you to any free time that you have in the future for two hours. catch: once you've spent that free time, when you get there in actuality, you skip right over it'. another was 'kills anyone you want, and adds their remaining lifetime to yours'. they were all very even sort of things that involved trading time and keeping balance.

anyway one of the kids had this deadbeat dad, the kind who doesn't really raise kids, just shows up every once and a while to look cool? I think his name was alex. and he had been one of the previous owners of the rings. somehow they pass down to kids of the previous owners when enough die, or something. as far as i can tell, the rings were very cursed and dangerous and generally killed people off.

someone uses the rings to give alex a wasting disease, and he dies. all the people killed by the ring go to this awful hell dimension, the portal to which is in this gross shack at the edge of town, earning it the name Hell House by the kids.

there was also another character, who i think was named Gary Seven, but if i ever actually went forward with the idea, i'd give her the name Eve Eight. She was trans and super goth, and had been in a relationship with Alex. Alex was a jerk and had been manipulating her, and somehow signed her soul on as a servant of the rings. She was forced to guide the children in the use of the rings, orchestrate by Alex from beyond the grave, with the intention of somehow bringing him back.

Alex's daughter is named alice. i don't know anyone else's names or ring powers.

i had a dream that was basically a mix between ao no exorcist, hellboy, and young avengers, and it was really weird, but even weirder, i can probably salvage most of it and say it's an original product.

David Katz is the main character, he didn't have a name in the dream but he was explicitly Jewish, so, since I'm gonna blatantly base his experience with Judaism on mine, I've named him after my two Jews I Have Known. The other main character is George Hsu, who was just named 'Andrew' in the dream, but I've changed his name to George because 'Andrew Hsu' is a bit too cutesy rhymey for me. Anyway, they've been dating for a year and go to a preppy private high school in NY.

also there are demons that David fights while sprouting wings and beating them with a flaming baseball bat. the basic premise seems to be ~all myths are true~ with a bent on christian lovecraftian shit, but I'll probably twist it around to make it that all myths are true due to how humans see the world and conceptualize good versus evil, which will lend itself to a device with which i can use to talk about David's fractured sense of judaism.

George goes along with David and knows about the whole demon fighting thing, George is himself terrified of hights so flying is difficult, also he is really into SJ fandom and is probably a BNF under a female pseudonym which is coincidentally his drag name.

george is my favorite

David has a younger brother whose defining characteristic, as per my dream, is that he's a huge fuckup. their mother is dead, and their father is an important ceo or something and is out of town a lot. david is thus tasked with taking care of nathan, but he's not very good at it, and tends to be domineering verging on abusive in order to keep him in line. overall david is a good person geneally, but he is under a lot of pressure and kind of takes it out on his brother.

george lives with both of his parents in the same neighborhood as david; he has one older sister, already is college. his greatest pet peeve is going out in public with his blonde mother and watching as everyone assumes they're not biologically related. when he was younger he used to avoid his mother for this, but since coming out, now he's much more adamant about going EVERYWHERE with her.

george is probably the reason why this would have to be a webcomic; he would make constant reference to current Fandom Topics Of The Day-- instead of the acceptable startrekharrypotter nerd references-- and as such namedrop a lot of properties. he really IDENTIFIES with john egbert for example, and is really adamant about his interpretation of john as half chinese and ships john/kat really hard. he also really likes shojo manga and will remark that going to a private school isn't nearly as fun as it seemed in [x title that might just end up being aonoex because he's definitely read aonoex]. basically he is an awful awful fanbrat who loves sj.

he will at least once mention that he couldn't possibly be the protagonist because 'jake long american dragon' was already a show. david will score points in the conversation by remembering that he thought george liked juniper lee a lot better?

other conversations bound to happen are: david mentioning shouldn't like he fight monsters with a kabalah or something? and george butting in with THAT'S CULTURAL APPROPRIATION!!!!!

also there is a native american character who also fights demons, David is trying desperitely to turn him into a Father Mentor Figure, so far it isn't working. i need to read up on more native american stuff before i can properly name him and figure out what he's doing, but basically he's last decade's Champion who fought the demons in ny, a new one shows up every ten years regardless of whether the old one has died or retired

In the first dream, a whole bunch of supervillians were descending upon the National Museum of the American Indian because the Blue Beetle (except he was Native American and his main power was mixing SCIENCE with Native American lore, which I thought was pretty cool) had put a very powerful horn in there for safe keeping (it was like part bear and part whale, because then it could stalk you on land and on sea? idk).

And the Flash heard about it and was all, WELL THEN WE'LL CALL AAAAALL THE SUPERHEROES UP, AND KICK THEIR ASSES because the NMoAI is huuuuge. And it was also Batman's birthday, so they handed out cheap Batman costumes for all the other superheroes to wear as to confuse the hell out of the super villains/annoy the hell out of Bats. And Superman was giving PSAs on the speaker system to not use the elevators, because you shouldn't use an elevator in a building about to be attacked by Lex Luthor & Co.

And someone passed out Robin costumes too, and Ashere put one on (because he was there?) and Dick Grayson was all 'You're doing it wroooong'. (And Ashere was all 'We can't all dye our hair for youuuuu.')

And in the second dream, it was like the Carolingian era or something except a little bit steampunk, and and there were two kids, Caroline and Joseph. And Caroline was a bit headstrong and Joseph was a bit of a derp derp (which I am finding is my favorite dynamic between siblings) and they had an eeeevil tutor named Rothco (yeah I know idk) and he was terribly mean.

And Joseph had just gotten sick or died or whatever, and Caroline was sad because Joseph was her only friend, and then she overheard Rothco talking about how he'd fooled Caroline into taking a truth serum (because he was tutoring them in, among other things, magic) and Caroline was all !!! indignant, and rushed to tell her father who is an earl or some shit, and of course Rothco gets their first and is all, your daughter has flown into a fit and is saying untrue things about me, and then Caroline walked in and then I woke up.

And before then, when Caroline and Joseph had first met Rothco, Caroline was pretending to be a blind nun (because in their world, a famous nun was blind? idk) and Rothco was all, well if you're blind, you won't know which burning hot rod iron to touch, and Joseph was all, seriously you're kind of fucked up.
